National Bass West gets going this Saturday

National Bass West returns for its 13th season running tournaments in San Diego, just over a month after announcing at their “Lake Havasu Classic” that they would not be holding tournaments in the 2015 season. The popular local tournament circuit received instant pressure from the anglers, and thus just a few days later, National Bass West announced they’d be back.

  • Among the anglers stoked about that change of heart has to be Tom Leedom, who has won 5 National Bass West Angler of the Year Titles in San Diego, and has won the last two together with partner Keith Gunsauls. The last team to top Leedom in the year-end standings was our #1 ranked angler in 2014, Kevin Norling with partner Marco Fenelli (ranked #22 in 2014) in 2012. Norling and Fenelli topped Leedom and his partner that year, Brian Kowalski by 7 points.

El Capitan has been fishing tough for many anglers, but a revived breaking fish bite in the main basin of the lake could be a wildcard if the weather holds. There are plenty of feeding fish at El Capitan right now, but they’re keyed in on the real stuff for the most part.

National Bass West will hold tournament signups beginning at 4:30 AM on Saturday morning at the 7-Eleven on the corner of Lake Jennings Pk Road and El Monte Road near El Capitan. For more information on the series, contact Lynne Peterson at 760-497-8238.
