Wade Strelic and Wes Zimmerman outfished 34 teams in Saturday’s National Bass West team tournament at El Capitan. That’s twice in a row for the duo. “Fishing was pretty much the same and we did the same things, the fish were out a little deeper in the channel and we caught our limit by 8am” said Strelic. That limit weighed in at 15.94lbs and earned them $2,370 for first place.
Second place went to Tom Leedom and Brian Kowalski with a 5 fish limit totalling 15.24lbs. “We only got 7 or 8 bites today. We dragged the bottom with drop shot and worms” said Leedom. Third place honors went to Marco Fenelli and Larry Henson with a 5 fish limit totalling 14.90lbs. anchored by a 4.23lb bass that was good for 3rd Big Bass. “We started our morning throwing reaction baits and covered water, then we fished worms deep and culled up” said Henson. Fenelli caught the 4.23lb big bass at the end of the day on a drop shot in deep water.
Big Bass of the event went to George Pernicano and Alex Espinoza with a 7.36lb bass. “she ate a senko on the bank in the morning” said Alex. It took 12.74lbs to earn a check, that team was Rick Lindemann and Dave Voelker. The “one out of the money” earned Bass King shirts and $50 from sponsor Frank Toyota.
